Our vision is that we would have “Church on Earth as it is in Heaven”: a congregation of maturing Christians from all walks of life.
Our mission is “Disciples Making Disciples”.
Our goal is to have a church composed of people who work together to share the gospel with others, follow-up with new believers to establish them in the faith, teaching them to grow as believers in Christ that they would in turn become ‘disciple-making disciples’.
We refer to this process by the phrase, “Disciples Making Disciples”.
After his resurrection, Jesus instructed his followers to “…go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
In keeping with Christ’s command, we desire to see people come to faith in Christ, increase in their knowledge of God and understanding of the Bible, grow in godly character, and be able to competently and prayerfully speak God’s word to others.
Accomplishing this mission requires that we as individuals, and as a congregation, take opportunity to involve ourselves in personal relationships with others that the gospel may be shared and the body of Christ increased.
This plan is based on the prayerful discussions of the Elders, congregational feedback to the Pastor and an assessment of all FFC activities. Continuation of existing core practices of congregational worship and biblical church governance is assumed, while the plan serves as a blueprint to help facilitate a ministry mind-set that focuses on gospel growth: reaching people with the gospel, and helping them to grow spiritually.
The following goals and objectives are a guide to fulfill this purpose. The Elders will review them quarterly to ensure that FFC’s primary resource, its people, are being equipped in a manner consistent with this plan.
Goals and Objectives
Goal I: To make disciples who will in turn become disciple makers.
Objective 1: Outreach and follow-up.
Strategy 1: Continue to encourage visitors to complete a visitor card upon their first visit. That visit will be followed up with a welcoming letter from the Pastor communicating that their attendance was appreciated. Further follow up will be an offer of a home visit from church representatives, (may include the Pastor, another Elder, a Deacon, or other members as appropriate). This visit will be pursued and scheduled as appropriate as the church/individual(s) relationship develops. The status of such relationships will be an agenda item of the regularly scheduled Elders meeting.
Strategy 2: Support “good works” activities in the community (at least one per year), for church members to participate in, such as construction, painting or winterization, etc.
2a: Enhance the interaction with the families served by developing projects in a manner where there is opportunity to work side by side with friends or family members of those being served.
2b: Missions committee may select projects identified from the Deacon’s ministry, individuals in the congregation, requests directly from the community, or through the Hanover County Winterization Program.
2c: Other “good works” activities may be FFC providing a range of support to facilitate independent actions of FFC members as they seek to be a neighbor to those in need in the community.
2d: Encourage “Disciples Making Disciples” groups to actively look for opportunities to serve the community together as part of their strategy for spiritual growth.
Strategy 3: Foster and maintain within FFC leadership and the congregation a dynamic awareness that all church related activities such as, Sunday School, Sunday Service, fellowship meals, Men’s ministry, Women’s ministry, VBS, retreats, building projects, etc., are opportunities to influence non-believers toward saving faith, while at the same time aiding the spiritual growth of the participants.
Strategy 4: Introduce FFC to everyone living within selected postal routes based on proximity to the church to provide an accurate presentation of the church’s mission and vision and issue a standing invitation to visit.
4a: Mail a letter of invitation and brochure to new homeowners in the area.
4b: Conduct regular outreach activities with at least one event annually that involves inviting neighbors using targeted mailings and other directed advertising. Encourage existing discipleship groups to participate in this outreach as part of the disciple making process.
Objective 2: Elders to discuss the status of visitors and members that have been absent during the previous month to ensure that contact is made to deliver the message that they are missed and to see if there is any ministry need to be addressed.
Objective 3: Pastor will collaborate with the missions committee to regularly address what the bible says about evangelism, disciple-making and gospel growth.
Strategy 1: Missions committee shall endeavor to relate the missions update portion of the Worship service with the message when possible, whether prior to the pastoral message or in a connecting reference to a prior message.
Strategy 2: Lead the congregation toward a mindset where members are naturally active in evangelistic ministry.
Strategy 3: Encourage the congregation to prayerfully consider unsaved friends or family by selecting and consistently praying for five.
Strategy 4: Encourage members of the congregation to select prayer partners to focus with them on their lists of five.
Strategy 5: Promote teaching of disciple making in all ministry venues, such as Sunday School, mid-week Bible Studies, and small groups.
Strategy 6: Continue promoting “disciples making disciples” with each Elder working with at least one other individual in the congregation, training them in discipleship, with the goal of encouraging all to be disciple makers.
Goal II: Challenge and recruit the next generation of pastors, teachers and evangelists.
Objective 1: Pastor to encourage individuals who demonstrate a desire and commitment to spiritual leadership to exercise their gifting by actively providing opportunities to preach and teach. Pastor will prioritize training and equipping individuals for these roles.
Objective 2: Seek out and train a leader for the Music Team to lead the congregation in Worship through song on Sunday.
Goal III: Support Domestic Missions to foster disciples making disciples: people brought to genuine faith in Christ, growing into Christian maturity, living righteous lives and drawing others to faith in Jesus.
Objective 1: Continue financial support for missions/missionaries that are in unity with the mission and vision of FFC.
Objective 2: Promote church participation in at least one project per year with each domestic mission supported by FFC: Pregnancy Resource Center, InterVarsity at Randolph-Macon College and C.H.A.T.
Goal IV: Support International Missions Efforts—“Across the Sea” to foster disciples making disciples: people beyond our local community brought to genuine faith in Christ, growing into Christian maturity, living righteous lives and drawing others to faith in Jesus.
Objective 1: Continue financial support for selected missions/missionaries while reassessing support for MTEE and Jon and Kathy Schultz due to substantial change in their mission and work.
Objective 2: Enhance current international missions efforts by praying for the Beja People, an unreached people group, seeking favor for mission efforts and ways to support the mission’s efforts to reach them with Gospel.
Consider reestablishing financial support for Flave and Annie Davis once they declare a clear missions related ministry and have an established need that will promote disciples making disciples.
Goal V: Enhance Children’s Ministry to see young people brought to genuine faith in Christ, growing into adulthood living righteous lives and drawing others to faith in Jesus.
Objective 1: Equip parents to lead their children to mature faith in Christ by providing them Biblical instruction, encouragement, educational resources, and opportunities for fellowship with like-minded parents.
Objective 2: Provide “best fit” learning opportunity for each class by having the Children’s Ministry Team regularly review the demographics of the class rolls.
Objective 3: Seek out and train youth workers and teachers who have exhibited and expressed both a sound faith in Christ and a heart for ministry to children.
Goal VI: Address short-term and long term facility needs to provide space that is conducive for worship, fellowship and learning, and which is inviting for visitors and is adequate for growth in attendance. Recruit an “ad hoc” team to investigate feasibility of FFC acquiring an expanded facility.
Goal VII: Develop Deacon Ministry to perform such ministry-related duties as the Elders determine, including administrative responsibilities related to the physical needs of the congregation, oversight of church property, or providing practical and spiritual care to residents of the surrounding community.
Objective 1: Administer the church’s Benevolent Fund in accordance with the FFC Benevolence Policy to see that it is used to further the gospel by ministry to the physical needs of widows, orphans, the poor, needy, sick and distressed.
Objective 2: Manage the property maintenance budget and arrange repairs and enhancements to the building and grounds.
Objective 3: Deacons to meet with the Elders quarterly.
